It is a handy feature to stay fit and control your daily activities and calories consumption. 3-axis accelerometer is not a GPS sensor but a low-energy consuming Casio technology (since some watches have no built-in GPS the devices can’t track distance while kayaking, biking, flying, etc. Basically, anything that cannot track your steps based on your wrist/arm movement). **A good combination if you want to track your steps daily and sometimes track your pace and distance during any running activity (pace and distance are suitable only for the G-SQUAD line). Note, such watches do not have built-in GPS sensors, so you need to sync your Phone GPS with the appropriate app (like G-Shock Move App) and use it while running. After syncing, your running data will be displayed on the watch screen (which is very convenient). Besides, your phone GPS can correct your pedometer settings automatically. How does it work? You do one run with the phone and the watch. The watch learns with its built-in accelerometer about the actual GPS measured distance from the phone. After that, you can run without the phone, and the watch itself tracks the distance quite accurately based on your movement (step tracker algorithm).

- The step count can show a value up to 999,999 steps. If the step count exceeds 999,999, the maximum value (999,999) remains on the display.
- To prevent miscounts, the displayed count does not increase for about 10 seconds after you start walking. After you have been walking for about 10 seconds, the correct count appears, including the steps you took during the previous 10 seconds.
- The step count is reset to zero at midnight each day.
- To save power, step counting stops automatically if you take off the watch (no detectable watch movement) and you do not perform any operation for two or three minutes.

Yes, you can. You will have pace and distance data but based on your wrist measurements (in modern watches that support G-Shock Move App). GPS data will be more accurate, but more expensive as well. That may be a good solution if you do not care very much about 100% accuracy.
G-Shock GBD-H1000 Series can boast Tough Solar technology. Solar Energy is not enough to power GPS fully, but maybe enough for a Pedometer.
It provides you with almost the same data, but you also have an attractive watch on your wrist that is very tough and water-resistant. You will also have essential statistics on your phone.
